Treatment Time - 30 minutes Pain Level - 6/10 So we've all heard of Laser Hair Removal, correct? If not, in short, the laser used shrinks the follicle down and, after many sessions, will shatter the melanin, which colours the hair, resulting in a mass reduction of hair. Some people will still experience some growth but it will be very minimal and most likely, very fair in colour. I experience LHR on my... |
...underarms. To my surprise, unlike waxing, LHR can be performed even after you have shaved so you don't need to go through that awkward, "what can I wear today?" stage, which made it so much more appealing to me!
The therapist began by determining my skin type as there are two lasers that can be used, the Ndyag - for darker skin and the Alexandrite - for fairer skin. I was given protective goggles to wear and before I knew it the treatment had began.
It was like nothing I had felt before. The sensation was one of a kind, it felt like someone was pricking me with a hot needle for a fraction of a second and then it felt fine. During the session, due to the heat, my skin started to feel itchy but the therapist assured me that it's totally normal. There is an option of applying numbing cream before the treatment but I didn't opt for it. Although it was uncomfortable I would happily have it done again, even without numbing cream, if it meant I never had to wax or shave as often ever again.
The treatment lasted between 10-15 minutes on each underarm. I felt tender afterwards but the therapist applied a cooling moisturizer which felt great. I could see black dots where the hair once was but the therapist informed me that in a few days it would fall out and I wouldn't have much growth for the next few weeks.
Did it work?
Yes! She was correct. I didn't need to shave until 3 weeks later and even then the hair was so fair and fluffy.
Would I recommend Laser Hair Removal?
Yes, 100%. I would much rather have a few treatments where I experience a little pain than to have to experience waxing for the rest of my life.
The overall experience was fast, a little painful and a little hot. The worst part was probably the smell of the burnt hair but that passed very quickly.
